January 28, 2015

-For Immediate Release-

MADCAP turns it up for Red Bull Sound Select 2015, announcing a new tour at Auckland’s Neck of the Woods on Friday, Feburary 27 and an afternoon Sunday session at MEOW, Wellington on March 1. Both gigs will see the return of the legendary rapper Azizi Gibson (LA), who will be headlining Kåm∆nd¡Black City Lights, and Eastern Bloc (evolved from BeatMob.) MADCAP also introduces Wellington‘s ‘Race Banyonto the roster.

“Kamandi and I shook the world seven months ago with ‘Crown Violet‘. We met and made ‘Toast‘ and ‘Backwards Books‘ in the Red Bull Studios Auckland, then went away and made Claustrophobic‘ and more,“ says Azizi Gibson. “Now, I'm going back to my second home New Zealand to meet up with my fav producer once again. Shit is insane. I'm ready, I'm prepared."

The ‘Crown Violet‘, ‘Backward Books‘ and ‘Toast‘ collaborations have had 1,145,000 + plays collectively on SoundCloud. Since his last visit to New Zealand, Azizi has been signed by Atlantan pot connoisseur and hip-hop idol ‘Waka Flocka Flame.’ Christchurch’s Kåm∆nd¡ has also been picked up by international blogs including Hypetrak, Thump and Vice.

“I’m so happy to be back curating this year with an array of super talented New Zealand artists. I'm really proud to be supporting throughout 2015 and beyond,“ says MADCAP’s Haydn Middleton. “To have Azizi Gibson coming back out from LA to headline the two showcases in Auckland and Wellington is going to make for a unstoppable show!“

Red Bull #SoundSelect newcomer Race Banyon is New Zealand producer/live electronic music performer Eddie Johnston. Over the last two years he's headlined sold-out shows nationwide and shared stages with Rustie, Ryan Hemsworth, oOoOO, BadBadNotGood and Kaytranada. Since releasing his ‘Whatever Dreams Are Made Of’ EP in 2013 the demand for Race Banyon has intensified, remixing for the most prominent acts in New Zealand, with high chart placements on radio. Mixing the pulse and musicality of Chicago house, juke and footwork with the raw emotional heft of RnB and the uninhibited theatrics of contemporary hip-hop, he's one of New Zealand’s most exciting young talents.

“I’m excited for the opportunities MADCAP and Red Bull Sound Select will offer me,“ says Race Baynon. “I’m really looking forward to the shows. There’s a solid lineup and it looks like a real fun time!”

Anyone can RSVP on to reserve a $5 ticket or enter for $10 on the door until full capacity. Bring your friends, we'll bring ours. Let’s #BREAKMUSIC.
